Bicentennial Celebration

St. George Forane Church Edathua, thhe renowned pilgrim centre which has been fostering since the beginning of the 19th century, the rise of Edathua from and obscure locality to a place of significance, celebrates its Bicentenary. It has been decided to have year long celebrations commencting in October 2009 and ending in September 2010.

The inauguration of the Jubilee Year will take place at 9 am on October 4th, 2009, in the Church. His Grace Mar Jospeh Perumthottam, Arch Bishop of Changanachery will light the lamp. This will be followed by pontifical Holy Mass. His Grace will lay the foundation stone for the Jubilee Memorial Building.

The public meeting at 10:30 am will be presided over by His Grace the Arch Bishop. Sri Vayalar Ravi, Hon. Union Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs, has kindly consented to inaugurate the year long celebrations. Prof. K.V. Thomas, Hon. Union Minister of State of Agriculture, Fisheries Food, Civil Supplies and Public Distribution will inaugurate the Jubilee Housing Scheme for the poor. His Grace Mar Joseph Powathil, Arch Bishop Emeritus, releases the Parish Directory. Sri Kodikunnil Suresh M.P. delivers the keynote address. Sri. Thomas Chandy MLA felicitates on the occassion.
